location
Clear Creek Road, west of New Idria (San Benito County, California, US)family
Liliaceae
notes Flowers of Fritillaria viridea, an endemic of San Benito County and environs (i.e. there are also some records from Monterey & San Luis Obispo Counties). F. viridea (like its close relative F. ojaiensis) is somewhat reminiscent of the more widespread F. affinis, but it's typically a more slender plant with smaller and paler yellow flowers, which are much less mottled than those of F. affinis (or F. ojaiensis). If you look closely at this image, you can see two legs of a bee near the base of the left anther of the lower flower. The same bee is shown in another detail shot of the flower posted here. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
