notes Extreme forms of this fringe-frilly were once offered in mail order catalogs. The flowers were 4 inches across. Mostly they were obtained in a spot to the west of Weaverville. Plants in this spot, the only locality known to the trade, were exterminated by about 1970. At a distance, they strongly resembled local irises. The flowers in the photograph were nearly 4 inches across. Plants with smaller flowers are still fairly common in Trinity County. In adjacent areas, the flowers are mostly pinkish.photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
