  • notes   Remains of the veil form a characteristic white patch on the cap and a skirt-like ring, or annulus, high on the stalk. A. phalloides, when ingested, is responsible for 90 percent of the mushroom-poisoning cases in California. Amatoxins inhibit RNA synthesis, causing multiple organ failure.
