notes Mallory's manzanita has canescent leaves and was first named Arctostaphylos canescens ssp. mallorryi, but has now had a change in nomenclature to A. malloryi. The shrubs are easily passed by as A. viscida as they look somewhat similar at a glance, but when you get used to looking for them and locating them, they get much easier to spot. Feel is the main first step in learning to identify this species. The leaves are very 'fuzzy' feeling due to the many hairs on them and canescent means 'having white or gray hairs'. The leaves are usually smaller than the Sticky Whiteleaf manzanita, also...but not always.camera Olympus C750UZ
