  • location   Kyburz Flat. Tahoe National Forest. North of Truckee (Nevada County, California, US)
  • notes   This style of petroglyph, consisting of small depressions carved in rock in straight or winding rows, is found widely thoughout the world. These cupules, about the size of golf balls, may be as much as 2000 years old. The area was occupied by the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada through the middle of the 19th century. The cupules were presumably created by the ancestors of the Washoe. (additional keywords: archeology, native american.)
