notes I've been muttering at these perennials in their seemingly static form as vegetative rosettes since moving to Lompoc in 2005. Patches of tiny rosettes here, patches there, and never any flowers or even stems! You come back to check on their progress in May, in June, and there is no progress. Such a tiny plant seems unlikely to be a perennial, but if it is, what is it waiting for? 2009 had lots of gentle, late-spring rain showers, and now presto, the rosettes have given birth to the elusive Saint's Daisy, reputedly a fire follower. I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end, but I never thought I'd see Erigeron sanctarum. But now, they're common!photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
