| Reviewer's comments: | | | "this is the "spring coccora," recently named by Bojantchev and Davis in 2011, but recognized as a distinct species within the Amanita calyptroderma group prior to that time.
it is a common species at elevation and occurs with pine, like in this photo. I have found A. vernicoccora on several occasions in Yosemite; Amanita velosa does not occur there, or at least has not yet been documented there.
Velosas also never have a bright yellow cap nor an annulus, like shown here, and occur with live oak, never pine." |
