Polygonaceae
notes Habit of a single plant of Eriogonum ordii. This individual was fairly typical of the mid-sized plants of the population, which varied from small plants about 2 decimeters high to very robust individuals around 8 decimeters high . Note that this plant had no cauline leaves. Many of the more robust plants did have cauline leaves at the lower one or two nodes of the stem...but it seemed the majority of the plants in this population lacked cauline leaves. It was difficult to get good photos with low late afternoon light and a relatively constant and gusting breeze. The wind was blowing from the right, and many plants like this one exhibited a wind-flagged asymmetry...kind of a bonsai, annual version of krummholz :-)camera Shot with a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f5, 1/80, ISO 100 using a Canon 50mm compact macro lens.
photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
