  • notes   Munz separated this species from C. brainerdii in part by the filamentous stalks of the lowest spikelets of an inflorescence. The stem (culm) is not branched The stalk looks like a young culm, but it's arising from the real culm, and is part of the inflorescence whose spikelets are seen up high.
