notes Opuntia basilaris var. brachyclada is a rare variety (along with var. treleasei) of the otherwise relatively widespread and fairly common O. basilaris var. basilaris. Variety brachyclada is distinguished by its smaller, oblong, club-shaped pads. However, it's sometimes hard to tell (at least for me) whether one has 'good' var. brachyclada, as it seems to grade almost continuously into var. basilaris as one moves throughout its range.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f14, 1/60, ISO 100, with flash, using a Canon 50mm macro lens.
