  • species associated with this habitat: Elymus glaucus    Avena sp.    Pinus sabiniana    Quercus sp.  
  • notes   Blue wildrye (Elymus glaucus) is the predominant grass in the foreground; most of the field is dominated by Avena sp. The slopes at left have gray pine (Pinus sabiniana) and several species of oak, of which coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia) appears to be the most conspicuous in the image. The slopes at right (the south flanks of Jackass Peak) are covered with the shrub chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum) bordered by oaks, most of which are probably blue oaks (Quercus douglasii). Pine Ridge in the far distance is crowned with ponderosa pines (Pinus ponderosa).
