INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Mar 31, 2004
  • location   Coyote Canyon Rd, Anza Borrego (San Diego County, California, US)
  • family Fabaceae
  • notes   This image shows the distinctive '5-whorled' inflorescence of purple flowers typical of P. emoryi. It's as if, taken together, they're simulating a larger 5-merous flower (and a fancy one at that!). Perhaps this enhances the effectiveness of its floral 'advertisement' to pollinators.
  • camera   Shot on a Canon D60 at f2.5, 1/1600, ISO 100 using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
  • photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
