notes A diminuative white-flowered E. wallacei. Note: I originally posted this on CalPhotos as E. lanosum, having misinterpreted couplet 6 in the JEPS93 key, after fixing my attention on the white ligules. I guess I figured 'cream-colored to yellow' meant pale yellow to yellow, as opposed to 'white'. However, Tom Chester recently alerted me to my apparent error. The descriptions in both JEPS93 and the Flora of North America indicate that E. wallacei can have white ligules, and that among other things, this plant appears too densely-woolly for E. lanosum. (Checking pappus could have yielded a more definitive ID, but I didn't get to do that.) Furthermore, Tom noted that all the vouchered records from near the site of this photo are ID'ed as E. wallacei. So I'm editing this post and moving the images to E. wallacei.
