notes I was very impressed by the hefty woodiness of the ''stems'' of this Minuartia! (This photo only begins to convey it, another which came out too blurry to post, conveys the extensive woodiness in its fuller glory!) Various descriptions (e.g. FNA, Munz) state that the caudex of M. obtusiloba is woody, and I think the woody stems here (which seemed so surprising to me from my prior experience with Arenaria/Minuartia) are actually the previously underground caudices of a venerable old plant that have been exposed by soil erosion.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f18, 1/60, ISO 100, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
