notes Habit of a staminate (male) plant of Eriogonum incanum. The vast majority of Eriogonum species are synoecious, meaning that each of the flowers of a typical plant have both fertile stamens and fertile pistils. However E. incanum is one of three unusual species in the genus in that it is dioecious---meaning it has staminate (male) flowers and pistillate (female) flowers residing on different plants. See comments on my other E. incanum posts here at CalPhotos for more details on this interesting phenomenon.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f14, 1/250, ISO 200, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
