notes Detail of nodding fruit of Calochortus persistens, with marescent (i.e. persistent) perianth parts. This is said to be the only species of Calochortus with marescent perianth (thus the specific epithet 'persistens'). However, I have seen other Calochortae with dangling old perianth parts...presumably these stay on longer though. Indeed, the fruit capsule here is pretty plump and far along, and the old petal and sepals are still hanging in there.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f11, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
