INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jul 2, 2007
  • location   Klamath National Forest, west of Yreka (Siskiyou County, California, US)
  • family Liliaceae
  • notes   Habit of Calochortus persistens, with its typical wide leaf, not whithered at flowering time. (I originally speculated this may be the origin of the specific epithet...but I read it actually refers to the petals, which are marescent (i.e. persistent) on the (nodding) fruit. Apparently this is the only species in the genus with marescent perianth.
  • camera   Shot on a Canon D60 at f16, 1/60 sec, ISO 100, with flash, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
