Orobanchaceae
notes Image shows habitat of Castilleja arachnoidea, namely, sizeable openings in montane coniferous forest where large dense populations of the Castilleja can occur. (Often the openings are flat rather than sloped like the site shown.) Here plants are intermixed with Calyptridium umbellatum, which I'm guessing is the host of the hemi-parasitic paintbrush.camera Shot with a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f8, 1/100, ISO 400, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
