  • notes   Detail of inflorescences of Anemopsis californica. The flower has an unusual morphology. The large white 'petal-like' appendages at the base of the inflorescences are actually bracts. The oblong-conical spike above the bracts harbors many flowers, each subtended below by a single white obovate petal, with the ovary embedded in the spike, and 3 styles, and some stamens protruding above the petal.
