    1. Reviewed by Lee Dittmann    Dec 27, 2000

Action: changed name from "Pinus sp." to "Larix sp. "

    Reviewer's comments:
"Since pines are not deciduous and the photographer labelled this as a "tamarack", and since it looks like a species of larch (of which tamarack is one), it is undoubtedly in the genus Larix, not the genus Pinus as listed. Flora of North America (1993) matches the common name "tamarack" with L. laricina. This same work, however, does not show this species as occuring in Washington. Apparently the photographer was either mistaken about her use of the name "tamarack" or about the location as "Washington."

    2. Reviewed by Michael Frankis    Jan 26, 2003

Action: changed name from "Larix sp." to "Larix occidentalis "

    Reviewer's comments:
"Two species are present on the photo, evergreen Pinus contorta ssp. latifolia (green trees with spaced branches, left, centre foreground and far right), and deciduous Larix occidentalis in fall foliage (yellow trees with denser branching, centre middle ground and right background).
