  • notes   Some stony corals, particularly Acropora spp., can survive for short periods when exposed by low tides and thus can thrive in a niche where other marine reef-building organisms cannot compete. I also noted some leather corals very close to the intertidal zone and a few colonies of 'blue coral,' Heliopora sp.
