| Reviewer's comments: | | | "This newt is easily distinguished from other Taricha species by its solid, black eyes. It is black with coarse skin above, below stunningly red, normally with dark vent band. To assist in flowing water, its snout is narrower, with limbs and tail seemly lengthier than other newts.
