  • notes   Habit/habitat shot of A. hymenelytra, perhaps the loveliest saltbush native to California. Like most shrubby Atriplex, this species is dioecious. On the left is a female plant...the deeper green parts are clumps of unripe fruits). On the right is a male plant...the male flower clusters are much smaller and reddish-brown (barely visible here).
