notes Liver lobules, Mallory-Azan stain. Taken at 5x. This is IB 131L slide #43. The pig liver has more distinct lobules than the human, with connective tissue running along all six sides of each lobule in cross-section. In the middle of each lobule is a central vein, and the pink hepatic cords (chains of hepatocytes) radiate outwards. The white spaces between hepatic cords are the liver sinusoids, the capillaries in which the gastrointestinal blood from the hepatic portal system is processed. At the junctions between liver lobules are the portal triads, composed of the portal arterioles, portal venules, and bile ducts.camera Nikon D70s, original resolution: 300dpi, 3008x2000pxls at 5x magnification
