  • notes   Detail of flowers. Yes, this really is a Layia! It has phyllaries completely clasping the ray fruits, nicely lobed ligules, and is dotted w/ black spherical glands. And, it's succulent and growing in pure sand! It's also a federally endangered plant (CNPS List 1B).
