  • location   Osgood Swamp, South Lake Tahoe; along trail eastside of swamp (lake). (El Dorado County, California, US)
  • family Ericaceae
  • notes   This Pyrola seems to key possibly to P. chlorantha, given the minimal white vienation. It appears distinct from P. picta growing in the vicinty, but does not have a peltate stigma consistent with P. minor. I did not collect this specimen so I have defaulted to P. picta.

    Reviewer's comments:
"This is Pyrola dentata (note it has glaucus leaves that appear blue-green in color), indeed a separate species from P. picta but not listed in the Jepson 2 manual and listed only as a subspecies of P. picta in the 1993 edition. Check out Diana Jolles' work on the group at for more info. It is a fun group we have represented here in southern California too!"
