  • date of photo  Apr 10, 2006
  • location   El Paso Mountain, Red Rock State Park (Kern County, California, US)
  • family Polygonaceae
  • notes   Habit shot of Chorizanthe brevicornu. Although most of the basal leaves of this plant were browsed off before I got there...those that were left were +/- linear with an indistinct petiole, so I presume this is var. brevicornu. About 4 years ago (in April 2002?), the entire south flanks of the El Paso Mountains were a strangely brilliant yellow-green (as seen from the Redrock-Randsburg Road). When I stopped to investigate why, I discovered it was from masses upon masses of C. brevicornu.
  • camera   Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f16, 1/6, ISO 100, with a Canon 100mm macro lens.
