date of photo Jun 27, 2005
location
Mineral King Rd, below Cold Springs Campground. (Tulare County, California, US)family
Raphidiidae
order
Raphidioptera
class Insecta
habitat On granite near stream in montane mixed chaparral/coniferous forest area.notes I found that ITIS considered Agulla to be in the order Raphidioptera. But, in attempting to submit this photo, the CalPhotos webform wouldn't recognize Raphidioptera as an order in Class Insecta. So I used Neuroptera. I believe there is some disagreement over the taxonomy for this group, i.e. some split Raphidioptera and Megaloptera off as separate orders, while others treat them as part of Neuroptera (sensu lato).camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f9, 1/400 sec, ISO 200, with a Canon 100mm macro lens.
