habitat kelp holdfast, low intertidalnotes Lateral view of arm. The Fragile Rainbow Star has one of the most complex surface architectures. The orange spines are cloaked in violet-blue tissue and surrounded by wreaths of small pedicellariae. There are larger pedicellariae distributed between the spines. The larger and more numerous smaller pedicellariae of this sea star can catch fish which are then passed to the mouth and eaten.camera Canon 10D, ISO 100, 50mm Macro lens
