  • plant community   In coarse sand and rocky soil in openings of chaparral.
  • notes   Detail of flowers and involucres. (As close as I could focus with my 50mm macro :-) Each involucre consists of two flowers: the lower, longer (fully opened) flower is pistillate; the upper, shorter flower is bisexual. For more info see James Reveal's Systenotheca webpage.
  • camera   Shot at f22, 1/25 w/ flash on a Canon D60 w/ a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
