  • notes   Even though this plant is growing within the area set aside for the California Nativescapes Botantical Garden, the plant itself resulted from self-seeding of plants adjacent to the Botanical Garden. The unusual appearance of this plant stem is due to a growth defect resulting in 'fasciation' where the stem is ... 'flattened and spread. The side shoots remain attached to the leading stem and the whole lot carries on growing as a bundle producing the broad stem.'
