  • date of photo  Aug 2000
  • location   Beside Hwy 89 on Mount Lassen (Shasta County, California, US)
  • family Pinaceae
  • notes   Mount Lassen is easily accesable in the summer , via State highway 89, and you can easily locate many of the less commonly seen conifers and hardwoods right on the side of the road. There are Whitebark Pine, Red fir, White Fir , and all the intergrades between the Red and White firs due to the fact that they readily hybridize. Also hybrids between Pinus Jeffryi and P. Ponderosa(Pinus x jeffreyi, and P. x ponderosa). Also a stand of Pinus Washoensis is not very far to the east near Butte Lake. The Sugar Pines and Western White Pines abound along the highway.
