  • notes   When hiking a forest trail an E. multicarinata was noticed in the jaws of California Striped Racer (Coluber lateralis). The snake seized the lizard with its mouth, but the lizard bit hold of the snake’s upper jaw, snout, and eye. It was obvious the adult snake was attempting to consume the lizard, but the lizard got a lucky grip. It was apparent, this baffled the snake, for when approached the snake remained motionless and was simply picked up. While holding the snake, the lizard remained securely fastened to the snake’s mouth and head. It was not until the snake was returned to the ground that they separated, the snake racing off in one direction and lizard scrabbling off in another.
