| Reviewer's comments: | | | "There can no question regarding the identity of this fern truly being Pellaea brachyptera.
It should also be noted, however, that hybridization of P. brachyptera with P. mucronata ssp. mucronata is to be expected on occasion in areas where the parent taxa overlap. This is also true for the as-yet-never-formally-described hybrid between Pellaea brachyptera and Pellaea bridgesii, which has been observed as recently as June of 1999 by D. Schwartz and myself in the vicinity of the Wild Plum Loop Trail, adjacent to of the Pacific Crest Trail in Sierra County, CA.
