habitat Redwood Forestnotes Adult with parotoid glands located behind eyes. Above dark brown; below gray. Believed to be male with bulbous vent, and tail exceeding its body length. It measured SVL 95 mm (3¾ in.), TL 203 mm (8 in.). In morning this salamander was found in campground restroom. Night before finding this salamander the illuminated restroom was invested for animals but only mosquitoes and banana slug were detected. Salamander likely entered later that night via an open, ground level, wall vent. Back of building borders steep, moist, fern and pine-covered slope.
