notes This photograph was taken in the laboratory by R. C. Stebbins, the collector of the specimen, which is now housed in the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology (RCS 11918, MVZ 116631). This is an unusual and rare specimen -- a fully metamorphosed terrestrial stage of what is normally a neotenic perennibranchiate form. The habitat was destroyed by the eruption of nearby Mt. St. Helens a few years later.camera 35 mm
