notes The corolla, stamens, and style have dropped from the developing fruit in the middle of this image...exposing the red-tinged top of the ovary (which is covered & obscured by the widened, ciliate, and pale-yellowish filament bases in the flowers at left & right). Interestingly, it appears that as the fruit capsule develops (e.g. after the corolla drops), a black band develops along the upper rim of the hypanthium, just below the sepal bases. (I'm wondering if the specific epithet maraginata may refer to that black band?) For more details on this plant, see remarks under 2nd photo in this series. photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
