notes I'm unsure whether much is known or written about the sequential stages of flower development, pollination, and senscence in Ayenia...but it seems certain the details are interesting. From this photo (and others on CalPhotos & elsewhere) it seems the petal blades, which initially are all connivent at their tips to the top of the androgynophore, later become detached and pull away from the top of the androgynophore and each other.
