notes Habitus shot of Horkeliella purpurascens, growing in granitic-derived soil in the open understory of a coniferous forest at 7220' elevation, about 7.1 air kilometers NE of Kernville...just north the Kern/Tulare County line. There's a CCH record by Twisselmann from nearby. The pale tube-like mounds of dirt are 'eskers' of Botta's Pocket Gopher (the only species of pocket gopher whose range includes the southern Sierra, according to the range maps here). photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
