location
Indian Knob (San Luis Obispo County, California, US)family
Polygonaceae
notes Flowering stems of Chorizanthe diffusa, being held up off the ground for the photo. The plants were growing here in poor sandstone-derived soils along the summit ridge of Indian Knob. The more northerly populations I'd seen of this species (in the Santa Cruz sandhills and at Ft. Ord) had white flowers (perianths) within the white scarious-margined involcral lobes...but these plants had decidedly more yellowish perianths (beyond the greenish throat). high resolution file https://www.flickr.com/photos/17069890@N03/24524609036/sizes/o/
