location
Slovenian side of the Predel pass, just below Herman fortress, East Julian Alps (Posočje, Slovenia)family
Primulaceae
notes Slo.: moknati jegič - Habitat: short grassland patches, steep mountain slope, south aspect; above road side; open, sunny, calcareous, rocky ground; average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 2-4 deg C, elevations 1.120 m (6.680 feet), Alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil. - Comments (pertain to pictures in Flicker album Primula farinosa): This pretty, Alpine perennial member of the Primrose genus is one of my favorites in this genus. It thrives on grazed, damped meadows, mountain slopes, but also on quite rocky places on limestone bedrock. There must be a lot of moisture present. Sometimes the plant appears massively making entire meadows looking pink tinted. Small, but delicately pink and very beautiful, it is an endangered species manly because of draining of wetlands. - Ref.: (1) M.A. Fischer, W. Adler, K.
