plant community Dry to mesic forestnotes Previously known as Caesalpinia kavaiensis (see previous photos https://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?where-taxon=Caesalpinia+kavaiensis&where-lifeform=specimen_tag&rel-lifeform=ne&rel-taxon=begins+with&title_tag=Caesalpinia+kavaiensis). Gagnon, et al, 2016, divided 205 pantropical species into 26 genera. Rare, endemic to the Hawaiian islands and endangered. Formerly less than 50 plants, but appears to be new outplantings on Hawai'i island. Elevation from 580-600 m. Note lack of prickles and red/purple raceme.camera iPhone 10
