  • location   Island Cres, Kvarner archipelago, slightly north of village Lubenice (Rijeka region, Cres, Croatia)
  • notes   Slo.: rumeni čepljec - syn.: Asphodelus luteus L., Dorydium luteum (L.) Salisb., Asphodelus sibiricus Schult. & Schult - Habitat: mountain ridge, stony, open, calcareous, windswept and dry place; full sun; locally almost flat terrain; elevation 348 m (1.140 feet); average precipitations ~ 1.000 mm/year, average temperature 11-13 deg C, Sub-Mediterranean phytogeographical region. - Substratum: soil among rocks. - Comment (pertains to Flickr album Asphodeline lutea): Asphodeline lutea is a Mediterranean species growing in southeast Europe, Asia Minor and some parts of north Africa. Only a single species, namely Asphodeline lutea, of this genus grows in Slovenia. In Croatia there exist two more. They and very similarly looking species of closely related genus Asphodelus are beautiful, stout and fairly large plants, which cannot be overlooked. They all can be over 1 m tall with many star-like, white or yellow flowers of several centimeters in diameter. One can often find them in large groups. On many of the larger Adriatic islands they are quite often plants. - Unfortunately, the flowers of the plants photographed had been already fairly weathered. Their optimal splendor was over. - Ref.: (1) A. Martinči et all., Mala Flora Slovenije (Flora of Slovenia - Key) (in Slovenian), Tehnična Založba Slovenije (2007), p 733. (2) R.
