This photo details the 'non-basal' inflorescence of this plant. Some characters to note are:
1) this inflorescence consists of a (lower, lateral) pistillate spike on the right; and a (terminal, erect) staminate spike on the left..the staminate spike has not yet matured (i.e. deployed and dehisced its anthers);
2) there are just two well-delineated nerves visible on the perigynia;
3) the perigynia is hairy and has a sharply elongate-acuminate 'beak';
