  • notes   This is an unusual Triilium ovatum. I first noticed the transparent petals with a featherlike strip of pigment when I was on a nighttime kill and as-salt mission against slugs in my garden. Slugs devastate trillium petals. The petals remained two-tone for about a week, then the transparent areas began to fill with white pigment produced by flavonoids and quercetin. I figure there was a glitch in the metabolism of this plant but it did make a beautiful photo..
