  • location   At ~8000' elevation, in the Vallecito meadow complex, Sierra San Pedro Martir (Baja California (Norte), Mexico)
  • family Asteraceae
  • notes   A somewhat wide-leafed individual of what I believe to be Hulsea mexicana, growing in semi-shade of Pinus jeffreyi. Although...limited to these photos...I can't get through the key in Wiggins 1980 ''Flora of Baja California'' (i.e. can't check pappus, and certain other characters), I'm nevertheless fairly confident of the species ID. It seems consistent with Rydberg's original 1914 description (from Sierra San Pedro Martír), as well as the FNA treatment, and is the only species of Hulsea listed in the 2010 ''Vascular Plants of the High Sierra San Pedro Mártir, Baja California, Mexico: an Annotated Checklist'', by Thorne, Moran, and Minnich (PDF here).
