INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Mar 22, 2013
  • latitude 32.20040   longitude 106.58970     View on Google Maps.
  • location   north side Bishop Cap Hills, on old mine road to crest, 1.4 miles southeast of junction with County road BO59 (Dona Ana County, New Mexico, US)
  • family Asparagaceae
  • synonyms Yucca torreyi
  • plant community   Chihuahuan Desert Larrea-Yucca-Fouquieria scrub at 4675' (1425m)
  • notes   a 'forest' of arborescent plants in coarse calcareous gravels in drainage of limestone hillside with Dasylirion wheeleri, Ephedra and Opuntia. Status of Y. torreyi is unclear or confused, being variously considered as a synonym of either Y. faxoniana or Y. treculeana by some, or as a legitimate taxa by others. Until the matter is better resolved, there is justification for leaving it as is.
