Piute Mountain (Kern County, California, US)family
Plantaginaceae
notes Growing abundantly in patches on pine needle humus, in the shadow-dappled understory of relatively open 'park-like' forest of Ponderosa & Jeffrey Pine at approximately 8000' elevation. These key to Collinsia torreyi var. latifolia in the Jepson eFlora treatment, due to subequal lower corolla lobes (i.e. lateral & 'keel') and the relatively wide leaves (length < 5 X width). Note that the Jepson treatment lists the range of that variety as northern CA (e.g. North Coast Ranges, Klamath Mnts, Cascades & Modoc Plateau), however the CCH does have a few records in the southern Sierra Nevada (e.g. here). photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
