animal's place of origin
in (Departamento Lacar, Neuquén Province, Argentina)family
Cylindrachetidae
order
Orthoptera
class Insecta
habitat In sandy soil in steppe vegetationnotes I have collected this species at two localities, in Neuquén and Río Negro Provinces. At both sites the animals were dug out of mounds of sand thrown out of the burrows of 'Tuco-tucos' (Genus Ctenomys). These are subterranean mammals, similar in shape and ecology to the North American Pocket Gophers. In this picture, the animals have their first pair of spatulate-like legs partly adpressed to their heads. At other times the arms are tightly adpressed and form a smooth shaped front to the head. In this image the animal has spread the forelegs away from the front of the head.keywords: Sandgroper
