habitat 55’, ocean edge of ranch, non-native grassland w/ Juncusnotes Hearst Castle zebra, likely the common Grant’s zebra (subsp. boehmi). Burchell’s zebra (subsp. burchellii) is reported to be on the Hearst ranch (Wikipedia & misc sources), but no photos appear to show other zebra subspecies on the ranch. When Zebras were brought to the Hearst zoo (1930s), the burchell’s zebra was already presumed extinct, though is now extant by synonomy with the Damara zebra (subsp.
